Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Electrical Wiring Systems team at Legrand North America. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and improving new and existing products and manufacturing processes used to make plastic electrical components.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop manufacturing process plans that meet all manufacturing requirements for safety, ergonomics, process capability, quality, and cost.
  • Present process concept proposals and implement approved processes on schedule and within budget.
  • Identify improvement opportunities for safety, cost, ergonomics, quality, and process capability improvements.
  • Monitor production quality and assure assigned processes can produce at or above required quality levels.
  • Perform root cause analyses, take corrective action, and design/implement engineered solutions when appropriate to maintain effective compliance.
  • Design, improve, maintain, and implement processes (equipment, machines, fixtures, etc.) to meet operational needs.
  • Establish and maintain effective preventive maintenance schedules for all processes.
  • Produce and update necessary documentation to support production, including engineering drawings and specifications, bills of materials, and quality requirements and testing.
  • Manage projects to rapid and effective completion, including spanning departmental gaps.
  • Work with the Marketing Product Line Manager to develop the product specification, gain consensus on design with marketing and manufacturing, and determine the appropriate codes and standards, testing requirements, end-user preferences, and trends.
  • Create sketches, 3D files, and prototype designs to express all the different options that are used to satisfy the product requirements.
  • Evaluate these concepts to choose the best design based on customer requirements.
  • Create final 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using Pro-Engineer and other CAD software to refine, develop, and finalize the design.
  • Refine and complete product design through modeling, prototyping, testing, analysis, piloting, and inspection of processes and first articles.
  • Work closely with Advanced Manufacturing, Tool Shops, and Manufacturing to procure prototype and production product components.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum BS Mechanical Engineering degree; Master's degree desirable.
  • Minimum years of manufacturing experience that has obtained specialized/expert experience that complements a broad base.
  • Plastic Extrusion experience and tool and die experience preferred.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Broad understanding of Engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to demonstrate creativity in the development of new product design concepts.
  • Excellent project management skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and manage a project plan, establish priorities, work to deadlines, and control a number of projects at various stages of work.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software, e-mail, and meeting management software.
  • Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Proficient with engineering design and engineering project management software.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail, and ability to effectively handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
Position Attributes:
  • CAD: Ability to produce CAD solid models and 2-D drawings.
  • Documentation: Produce ECN with BOM and Drawings to support existing and new design line expansions.
  • Manufacturing Process: Suggest machine improvements to aid in product manufacturability and repeatability.
  • Manufacturing Process: Suggest assembly methods modifications to aid in obtaining product process improvement by product design improvement.
  • Quality Systems: Design quality Check gages and supervise and approve the building and implementation into the manufacturing process.
  • Product Testing: Devises and performs specialized lab mechanical tests.
  • Problem Solving: Innovates highly complex technical solutions for existing or new product designs.
  • Problem Solving: Is the technical leader in complex product complaint resolution.
  • Self-Direction: Priorities are set by managers. Manages their own workload and coordinates with others.
  • Self-Direction: Drives new designs through the development system.
  • Project Leadership: Serves as lead presenter at project meetings.
  • Technical Leadership: Serves as lead presenter at project meetings.
