Maintenance Planner Controller Job Description

Overview:

The Maintenance Planner Controller plays a pivotal role in the management of asset and equipment maintenance systems, ensuring the smooth operation of Krier Foods' production capabilities. This position is responsible for generating routine and planned maintenance schedules, coordinating resources, and supporting maintenance teams in executing planned maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules to optimize production efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure timely completion of planned maintenance tasks.
  • Review and prioritize maintenance backlog to minimize delays and maximize productivity.
  • Collaborate with departmental heads to allocate resources and ensure effective use of maintenance personnel.
  • Participate in planned maintenance periods to support maintenance teams and assist with problem-solving.
  • Adhere to Out of Service processes and time guidelines to minimize disruptions to production.
  • Reschedule incomplete work to the next planned maintenance period and capture required information on the maintenance system.
  • Facilitate and lead maintenance postmortems to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Generate routine maintenance schedules using the maintenance planning system, including required cleaning, lubrication, and inspection tasks.
  • Allocate resources to schedules and generate works orders as necessary.
  • Communicate schedules to production, engineering, and other support teams and resolve work and resource allocation problems.
  • Verify completion of routine maintenance schedules and ensure shift teams are completing assigned maintenance tasks.
  • Complete all administration and maintenance systems tasks required to support routine maintenance schedule management.
  • Keep work estimates up to date and accurate, review performance against estimates, and investigate non-conformance to target.
  • Participate in the commissioning of new maintenance systems or changes to the current maintenance system as requested.
  • Manage maintenance systems to ensure operational and data integrity and correct use of the system.
  • Generate required maintenance reports, including Maximo reports, and communicate with key stakeholders.
  • Capture required data on the maintenance systems, verifying accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct analysis of maintenance data to identify failure modes and root causes of maintenance problems and to identify problems in a timely manner.
  • Communicate analysis results to the appropriate team and include in planned maintenance schedules as necessary.
  • Manage planned work on maintenance days and as required.
  • Apply problem-solving approaches to resolve problems that occur during routine or planned maintenance activities.
  • Call in additional resources to assist in problem-solving or escalate to manager for direction as needed.
  • Assist team members in resolving problems on request.
  • Participate in Formal Failure Analysis (FFA) as a functional expert.
  • Use control charts and trend analysis to identify sources of waste and variation in processes.
  • Use downtime analysis, Pareto charts, and other tools to identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Perform job observations during Corrective Maintenance Day windows.
  • Manage the right-sizing of spares in the storeroom in conjunction with the Parts Clerk.
  • Participate in sessions for capital and equipment improvement projects.
  • Develop PM packages for new equipment installed or commissioned in designated areas of responsibility.
  • Manage the maintenance budget from a labor, materials, and outside services perspective.
  • Update work plan frequency and efficacy based on principles of maintenance planning and feedback from technicians and corrective or PM work findings.
  • Plan maintenance and projects.
  • Develop asset care plans.
  • Work in teams.
  • Manage MaintainX system integrity.
  • Optimize and maintain packaging areas.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Maintenance budget techniques.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Minimum of a 4-year engineering degree or appropriate technical degree with technical experience or equivalent manufacturing experience in a Maintenance/Planning role. Prior experience in continuous process manufacturing operations management preferred.
  • Knowledge and application of World Class performance metrics and Lean principles, including SQSCS (Safety, Quality, Speed, Cost, Sustainability), 5S, OEE/6 Big losses, Standard Process Control (SPC), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
  • Operator-based maintenance and maintenance-based operation.
  • Problem-solving skills, including 5 Why and Formal Failure Analysis (FFA) facilitation.
  • Business knowledge and skills, including general good business management skills and practices, budget development and management, and cost savings development and management.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends if necessary.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with other departments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job, including frequent physical exertions, and be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal, reading electrical drawings, and visual inspection.
  • Ability to work in various conditions with exposure to extreme heat, cold, dust, and fumes.

Work Environment:

  • Office and manufacturing plant working environment.
  • The noise level in the office is moderate. While in the plant, hearing protection is required.
  • When located in the plant, the environment will include wet or humid conditions, moderate cold and hot temperatures, working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to raw food ingredients (including allergens) and chemicals.
  • Due to food and safety regulations, wearing hairnets, beard nets (if applicable), bump cap, and steel-toed or composite-toed shoes are required at all times while in the plant.
