Position Overview:


The Fiber Optic Installation Technician will be responsible for thorough inspection and acceptance of both aerial and underground installations, along with related construction tasks for any designated Outside Plant (OSP) project.

This role is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and is classified as a union position. All applicants must be prepared to join the relevant union upon hiring.

Sturgeon Electric operates through two divisions, providing both power line construction and commercial/industrial electrical services, establishing itself as a comprehensive electrical service provider.


The Commercial and Industrial (C&I) electrical construction division of Sturgeon Electric focuses on large-scale commercial electrical projects, telecommunications, traffic signalization, gas distribution, and high voltage distribution service and maintenance for clients.

Sturgeon Electric has a wealth of experience executing projects using Integrated Lean Project Delivery methods and also offers pre-construction services, in-house pre-fabrication capabilities, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) services.


Key Responsibilities:

- Interpret blueprints and comprehend the fiber optic color code to install and test fiber optic cables in various settings (both underground and aerial).

- Operate fiber fusion splicing equipment along with various OTDR and power measurement devices.

- Install both aerial and underground splice closures, as well as other closures typical to the splicing and termination of fiber optic cables.

- Conduct fiber testing using OTDRs, Power Meter/Light Sources, and Visual Fault Locators (VFLs).

- Accurately document and record testing outcomes in accordance with customer specifications.

- Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Foreman or Construction Manager.

Candidate Profile:

Qualifications:

- A high school diploma or GED is mandatory.

- Preferred familiarity with both CWDM and DWDM networking, including CWDM filter splicing.

- Experience in electrical construction is advantageous, particularly in aerial and underground installation and related construction activities.

Compensation and Benefits:

- This position is unionized.

- Hourly wage ranges from $26.36 to $33.89, based on experience and certifications, with benefits outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

- Sturgeon Electric covers healthcare costs for employees and their immediate families.

- An additional 15% of the wage scale is contributed directly to your retirement account.

- A five-year vesting period applies to the company-sponsored retirement account.

- The position may require pre-employment screenings, which could include background checks and drug testing.
