Licensing Associate

We are seeking a highly skilled Licensing Associate to join our team at Stony Brook Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of technologies, including identifying, evaluating, marketing, and licensing inventions and software developed by SUNY and Research Foundation faculty and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate the commercial potential of inventions and prepare non-confidential materials for marketing and licensing purposes.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies for each technology in the portfolio.
- Draft and negotiate terms of commercialization agreements, including options, licenses, material transfer agreements, and confidentiality agreements.
- Supervise interns and other junior members of the licensing team, as needed.
- Occasionally function as an alliance manager for collaborations associated with technologies in their portfolio.
- Ensure post-agreement compliance and manage the portfolio of technologies.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or other physical science-related disciplines.
- Five years of directly related, full-time technology transfer, technology scouting/assessment, intellectual property licensing, business development experience, and/or related legal experience.
- Master's degree in Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or other physical science-related disciplines, or an MBA or JD (foreign equivalent or higher).
- Two years of full-time experience working in a university Technology Transfer Office or in a business development capacity in industry.
- Experience negotiating intellectual property license agreements, drafting and reviewing contracts, and patent prosecution.
- Patent Agent certification.
- Experience working with complex agreements, such as sponsored research agreements and collaboration agreements.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with strong organizational and time-management skills.
