In the coming years, Umicore anticipates substantial growth, particularly in the domains of battery materials and recycling, leading to increased complexity in processes, organizational structures, and trade flows.
The Customs Compliance Manager will enhance and develop expertise within the Umicore Group, supporting the Global Customs Compliance Manager in delivering corporate oversight.
- Mitigating risks and costs associated with non-compliance
- Preventing supply chain disruptions due to compliance issues
- Achieving savings on import duties through the establishment of duty deviation schemes
Your Contributions
In the realm of customs compliance, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the customs departments across Umicore NV, Umicore Specialty Materials Brugge, and Todini BV.
- Ensuring processes are upheld for accurate product classification, (non-)preferential origin, valuation, and customs procedures, thereby guaranteeing the accuracy of operational customs clearance and import VAT.
- Overseeing the correctness of reporting for special procedures, including inward/outward processing relief and bonded warehouse.
- Facilitating the acquisition of necessary permits, such as AEO certification and approved exporter status.
- Ensuring compliance through assistance with customs audits and following up on audit recommendations.
- Participating in negotiations with customs brokers and monitoring the execution of standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Regularly updating the Global Customs Compliance Manager on customs operations and projects.
- Collaborating closely with the Global Customs Compliance Manager on various international customs projects.
- Working alongside the Global Process Owner for customs, other customs managers globally, and various departments.
- Providing training to the Umicore Trade Compliance, Logistics, and Commercial teams.
In Customs Advisory, you will also take on various responsibilities:
- Acting as an internal trusted advisor, offering compliance guidance and risk education to Umicore Business Units.
- Staying informed about detailed changes in customs regulations within the EU and maintaining a high-level understanding of regulations in regions such as the US and China.
- Monitoring the implementation of international free trade agreements and evaluating their potential impact on Umicore's operations.
- Developing and sustaining a comprehensive understanding of business flows to identify opportunities for duty deviation schemes, including duty suspension and inward processing.
Who We Seek
We are looking for candidates who possess:
- A higher degree combined with relevant experience.
- In-depth knowledge of EU customs regulations and procedures.
- A background or strong interest in chemistry and product classification.
- Fluency in Dutch and English, with additional languages considered an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong project management and analytical capabilities.
