Aerospace Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of physical models for aerodynamic testing. This role requires expertise in complex surface geometry creation, CAD software, and rapid prototyping methods.

About the Role
  • This position will involve designing and building wind tunnel models that align with aerodynamicists' test plans and program deliverables.
  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for executing build plans by designing, releasing, and coordinating the build of test properties for wind tunnel and on-vehicle tests.
  • They will perform hand calculations and FEA to justify mechanical design decisions for models.
  • The successful candidate will also assist in developing and validating novel airflow management features or systems on full-size and scale test hardware.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop wind tunnel models and physical mockups.
  • Execute build plans and coordinate with engineers, suppliers, model makers, and fabricators.
  • Perform hand calculations and FEA to justify mechanical design decisions.
  • Assist in developing and validating novel airflow management features or systems.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in complex surface geometry creation, simplification, and data management within CAD software.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic team environment.
  • Familiarity with common aerodynamic measurement systems and wind tunnel testing procedures.
