Job Summary

Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Equipment Technician II to join our team. As a key member of our Biomedical Engineering Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the effective use of medical equipment and maintaining a safe and efficient environment for our patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the acquisition, installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment, ensuring compliance with accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform routine tasks associated with the Medical Equipment Management Plan, including troubleshooting, reading schematics, and understanding manufacturer user and maintenance manuals.
  • Collaborate with the Biomedical Engineering Department to ensure the effective use of medical equipment and maintain a safe and efficient environment.
  • Develop and implement procedures for the maintenance and repair of medical equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical support and training to staff members on the use and maintenance of medical equipment.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of related hospital experience, plus an Associate's Degree, or 3 years of related hospital experience, plus a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Advanced knowledge of electronic theory, technology, and test equipment.
  • Experience with IT/Server/Networking and Philips Monitoring System/Pic Ix and BD/Carefusion infusion pumps highly preferred.
  • Ability to use manuals and other resources to solve problems.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical equipment nomenclature and the types and uses of various medical equipment.
  • Expert knowledge of basic hand tools and test equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology as applied to the use of biomedical equipment.
  • Knowledge of current regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of the application of computers and servers and how they interface with medical equipment.
  • Knowledge of networking and cybersecurity of medical equipment.
  • Advanced ability to use computer software for reading and preparing documents and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment, push/pull equipment carts, kneel, stand bend and reach during equipment repair.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AAMI Credentials Institute (ACI) Certification for the Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of common clinical terminology as well as that of life sciences such as anatomy and physiology.
