Staff Accountant

The New England College of Optometry is seeking a highly skilled Staff Accountant to join its Business Office team. As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, including cash receipts and general accounting.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in Excel, Word, and web navigation is essential, as is excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Assistant Controller and other Business Office staff to ensure the daily, monthly, and annual financial activities of the College are accurately recorded and reported. This includes processing and depositing payments, maintaining effective communication with departments, and reviewing daily bank activity.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and deposit payments as received from students, donors, and others
- Maintain effective communication with departments to ensure timely and accurate payment processing
- Review daily bank activity to ensure all transactions are properly recorded
- Prepare, review, and record entries, invoices, and receivables on the general and subsidiary ledgers
- Set up new vendors in the ERP system
- Reconcile various general ledger accounts on a monthly basis
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required
- One year of full-time, post-degree professional experience in general accounting required
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Experience with higher education accounting preferred
- Experience with computerized ledger systems
