Job OverviewThe Principal Data Engineer will lead a team of data engineers responsible for designing, developing, and implementing scalable, cloud-based data solutions that support real-time and batch processing. This role will inform the planning and roadmap for the Data Engineering team and own the quality of the data pipelines the team builds.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and contribute to the design, development, and implementation of cloud-based data solutions that support real-time and batch processing.
- Collaborate on analysis, architecture, design, and development of data warehouse and business analytics solutions, ensuring scalability and maintainability for future growth.
- Architect and implement robust, efficient ETL/ELT frameworks, leveraging in-house tools to ensure data quality, governance, and compliance across all layers.
- Mentor other team members in their efforts to build data architect skillsets, driving best practices for data pipeline development, data management, and cloud infrastructure.
- Assist team management in defining projects, including estimating, planning, and scoping work.
- Collaborate with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to define the enterprise-level data strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business goals and technical roadmaps.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the data engineering practice, focusing on automation, optimization, and innovation.
- Data wrangling of heterogeneous data, exploration, and discovery in pursuit of new business insights, evaluating and introducing new technologies and frameworks to stay ahead of industry trends.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related subject area, or equivalent experience.
- Master's/Advanced Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Statistics, or a related technical field, and/or MBA (preferred).
- 7-10 years of related experience, with 5+ years developing cloud solutions using data services.
- Minimum 3+ years of managing data engineering teams (preferred).
- Experience designing and building self-service analytics and big data solutions using cloud technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Azure EventHub/Kafka, Azure Data Factory, Snowpipe, AWS Glue, etc).
- Leading/coaching senior engineers and/or managers.
- Experience with the Software development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum methods (preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to manage global projects or programs, including work prioritization, planning, and coordination.
- Hands-on experience in programming languages like Python and/or Scala.
- Proficiency in Git or Terraform, with demonstrated experience in building and effectively utilizing CI/CD practices (preferred).
- Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams (preferred).
- Ability to work cross-functionally, building and maintaining trust with internal stakeholders (preferred).
- Passionate about learning new technologies (preferred).
- Cloud platform certification(s) (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) (required).
