Job Summary:

The Senior Vice President of Hospital System Operations will lead the optimization of hospital performance across all Kaiser Permanente hospitals. This executive will collaborate with market leaders, national office, and shared service leaders to accelerate decision-making, drive consistency, and deliver industry-leading performance across the system. This role will develop systems and structure to operate KFH's 40 hospitals as a single acute care enterprise.

Key priorities include:

  • Developing and implementing hospital processes and systems to improve key operational areas, including quality, safety, patient experience, and cost.
  • Providing leadership and coordination to develop new care delivery and clinical effectiveness programs and models of care.
  • Establishing consistent goals, targets, and metrics, monitoring performance, identifying improvement opportunities, and managing performance to ensure all KFH hospitals achieve industry-leading performance and reduce unwarranted variation in outcomes for patients.
  • Optimizing the use of shared services across all KP hospitals.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Drive hospital system excellence in the dimensions of quality, safety, experience, and cost.
  • Drive consistency with hospital policies and standards for staffing, productivity, patient and worker safety, care without delay, care experience, and other key operational and management practices.
  • Ensure performance reporting systems and oversight processes surface relevant performance issues in a timely manner, including development of appropriate metrics required to strengthen the system's performance.
  • Decrease unwarranted variation in performance outcomes by making improvement opportunities visible and working with market leaders to bring necessary support/SME resources to hospitals with performance challenges.
  • Enhance the infrastructure for identifying and resolving performance issues, executing change, and monitoring performance across the enterprise.
  • Identify key system-wide performance opportunities and challenges.
  • Work with market hospital leaders, quality, clinical effectiveness, and other operations leaders and experts to identify, design, and spread successful practices to address these opportunities and challenges.
  • Design and manage a well-coordinated vetting and decision-making process to optimize shared services across KFH hospitals, including evaluation of opportunities to consolidate additional operational or clinical shared services across markets.
Basic Qualifications:
  • A minimum ten (10) years of experience in a senior operational leadership role in the managed care industry and/or in integrated delivery systems.
  • Bachelor's degree required or four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
Additional Requirements:
  • Significant hospital leadership experience.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated financial, operational, and technical skills in driving and promoting safety, cost-effective care, and services.
  • Has the requisite business planning, strategic, and operational skills to achieve both short and long-term goals and establish fiscal discipline in their areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including developing constructive working relationships and partnerships with operational partners, willingness to challenge the status quo, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to operate in complex situations and remain effective.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in healthcare administration or business strongly preferred.
  • Management of 10+ hospitals in a regional or national system preferred.

This position has a target base salary of $1,201,232.00 to $1,501,541.00 and is eligible for incentive compensation, an executive allowance, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
