Position Overview

Make the Road New York (MRNY) empowers immigrant and working-class communities to attain dignity and justice through advocacy, policy development, transformative education, and essential services. With community centers located in various neighborhoods, MRNY addresses pressing issues such as workplace justice, tenants' rights, immigrant rights, civil rights, TGNCIQ justice, public education, health care access, and immigration reform. As a newly unionized organization, MRNY is currently in the process of negotiating its first Collective Bargaining Agreement.

About the Legal and Support Services Department:

The Department of Legal and Support Services at MRNY enhances the organization's advocacy efforts by (1) delivering legal and support services to meet the immediate needs of community members; (2) providing technical legal assistance for policy initiatives; and (3) assisting in the development and execution of leverage strategies, including strategic litigation, to bolster our advocacy campaigns. The department comprises approximately 50 attorneys, advocates, and case managers, with the legal team integrated into all facets of the organization's operations.

Current Opportunity:

MRNY is seeking a Legal Program Coordinator to join the Legal Grants Team within our Legal Services Department. This role is based in our Queens office, with a hybrid remote and in-person work schedule. The Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Legal Grants Manager, Senior Program Associate, and Legal Department leadership to support essential aspects of program management, evaluation, reporting to funders, and ensuring data integrity. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct data entry for the legal department, ensuring accurate input and updates of cases in internal and external databases while monitoring data integrity for reporting purposes.
  • Track programmatic progress on key grants, generate monthly data reports, coordinate funder site visits, and compile data and narrative content for quarterly and annual grant reports.
  • Oversee data management and quality control within the Salesforce database to guarantee completeness and accuracy.
  • Evaluate data in external databases related to various grants.
  • Collaborate in producing quarterly grant reports, progressively taking on more responsibility as coordinator and data steward for select grants.
  • Provide training for new staff on the Salesforce case management system.
  • Assist in the creation of the bi-annual Legal Department newsletter.
  • Help manage and organize digital files effectively.
  • Develop comprehensive guides for the Legal Department on protocols for file and data management.
  • Offer administrative support for various projects within the Legal Department, including professional certifications and data requests from other departments.

Qualifications:

  • Eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Full vaccination with an FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine prior to the first day of employment.

  • A bachelor's degree or relevant college experience.
  • Willingness to travel to other offices as needed.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

Job Competencies:

  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with Word and Excel.
  • Strong writing abilities and proficiency in proofreading.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in team settings.
  • Familiarity with numerical data and critical analysis skills to ensure accuracy and identify trends.
  • Creative problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a nonprofit or community-focused environment.
  • Fluency in Spanish and ability to translate written materials between English and Spanish.
  • Experience with database management, particularly Salesforce or similar systems.
  • Advanced skills in Excel.
  • Enthusiasm for working with data and analytics.
