Job Overview:
The Clery Compliance Officer and Inspector plays a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating inspections as part of the ongoing accreditation process within the department. This position is responsible for ensuring adherence to Federal Clery Act compliance efforts and conducting various administrative investigations as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a Campus Security Authority in alignment with the Federal Clery Act.
- Serve as the primary contact for the Federal Clery Act compliance initiatives.
- Maintain expertise in the standards and processes set forth by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) or equivalent.
- Keep organized files that demonstrate compliance with applicable regulations.
- Prepare reports and directives that support accreditation goals.
- Oversee the accreditation process, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
- Review departmental policies to confirm alignment with accreditation standards.
- Update personnel on changes in regulations, policies, and new law enforcement techniques.
- Provide training related to accreditation for agency staff.
- Coordinate and facilitate on-site assessments and inspections.
- Conduct background checks and other administrative investigations as assigned.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- A minimum of two years of law enforcement experience, including at least one year of direct involvement in a successful CALEA (or equivalent) accreditation process.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in higher education or law enforcement agencies, in either sworn or non-sworn roles.
- Completion of Federal Clery Act Compliance training from a recognized national provider.
- Training related to accreditation processes for higher education institutions or law enforcement agencies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in spreadsheet and word processing software.
- Familiarity with local community resources and law enforcement agencies.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate effectively with others.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic planning and organizational capabilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal managerial oversight and lead team efforts as necessary.
- Commitment to confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of information handled.
