Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Paralegal to join our team at Kahana Feld. As a key member of our litigation support team, you will be responsible for providing expert support to our attorneys and clients in a variety of practice areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and prepare complex legal documents under the supervision of an attorney.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and paralegals to direct workflow on various cases.
  • Supervise paralegals on their duties performed and assist accordingly.
  • Review and maintain documents and case files ensuring accuracy, organization, and confidentiality.
  • Compile pleadings for filing with courts and relevant agencies.
  • Conduct electronic document reviews, coordinate productions of documents with attorneys, and conduct other related eDiscovery tasks.
  • Assist with drafting discovery, pleadings, and status reports.
  • Organize and conduct case-related team meetings as needed.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and team members to develop effective case strategies and timelines.
  • Review and draft summaries of discovery responses, document productions, and relevant records.
  • Assist with preparation and review of materials for court hearings and depositions.
  • Attend client meetings, conference calls, and other case-related meetings with attorneys.
  • Conduct legal research, document review, and compile relevant case information; perform factual research in internal and external databases and libraries.
  • Review and process vendor invoices for accuracy.
  • Coordinate and prepare for trials by coordinating exhibits, witnesses, and trial binders; attend trials if necessary and provide support to attorneys at court and agency hearings.
  • Accurately document and bill for all billable work and tasks according to billing procedures; meet annual billable hours requirement.
  • Communicate and interact with filing clerks, court room assistants, and calendar clerks.
  • Liaise with outside vendors such as court reporters, experts, mediators, etc.

Requirements:

  • 0-5 years of experience preferred, working as a legal secretary or paralegal, preferably with a focus on business litigation, appellate, labor and employment, personal injury, or construction defect cases.
  • Paralegal Certificate
  • Proficiency in legal research, including familiarity with online databases and resources.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with professionalism in client and colleague interactions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and file management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficient in use of third-party e-filing providers, including but not limited to One Legal, First Legal, Odyssey File & Serve, Green Filing, etc.
  • Proficient in use of PACER and the federal Judiciary's Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) system.

Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: 8:30-5:30pm Monday-Friday. Occasional weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Work can be performed with or without accommodations.

Travel: 5-10% domestic travel by car and by plane.
