The Maintenance Technician II plays a crucial role in supporting the FedEx Industrial Maintenance team, focusing on the upkeep and repair of material handling systems. This position involves performing both preventative and predictive maintenance, utilizing established procedures related to mechanical power transmission, electrical systems, PLC controls, welding, and fabrication. The technician may also be tasked with troubleshooting various component and system issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts preventative and predictive maintenance on material handling systems, demonstrating proficiency in at least two specialty areas, including mechanical power transmission and electrical systems, along with basic welding and fabrication skills.
  • Diagnoses and repairs mechanical and electrical failures within the material handling systems, seeking guidance from senior technicians or management for complex issues.
  • Ensures compliance with safety standards and fosters a safe working environment by participating in safety meetings and training sessions, while addressing safety concerns promptly.
  • Responds to operational calls to identify and rectify issues.
  • May troubleshoot multiple component failures.
  • Utilizes Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software for data entry and retrieval.
  • Possesses skills necessary for diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical failures.
  • Collaborates with higher-level technicians for assistance with intricate troubleshooting tasks.
  • May participate in smaller-scale projects as needed.
  • Flexibility in work schedule is required, including availability for various shifts as dictated by business needs.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

AREAS OF LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Mechanical Skills

  • Identifies and repairs components of conveyor systems that are misaligned.
  • Diagnoses power transmission failures by pinpointing faulty components.
  • Interprets mechanical drawings and manuals effectively.

Electrical Skills

  • Employs a digital multimeter to assess AC/DC voltage, continuity, and resistance.
  • Tests relays and contactors to identify faulty contacts.
  • Reads and interprets electrical schematics and manuals.

PLC/Controls Skills

  • Accesses PLC programs offline for troubleshooting.
  • Diagnoses electrical control issues using PLC I/O indicators.

Welding and Fabrication Skills

  • Executes MIG and stick welding in various positions.
  • Fabricates basic components such as guards or brackets.
  • Utilizes an oxygen/acetylene torch as needed.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Preferred qualifications include certificates in Industrial Maintenance/Mechatronics or related fields, along with an associate degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of two years in Industrial Maintenance/Mechatronics, with proficiency in at least two specialty areas.
  • Military experience may be considered relevant.
  • In lieu of experience, an associate degree in a related field may be deemed equivalent.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Follows procedures as outlined by work orders or senior technicians.
  • Utilizes EAM software for data management.
  • Solves basic mechanical and electrical issues, demonstrating an understanding of fundamental engineering principles.
  • Diagnoses issues at multiple component levels.
  • Communicates effectively with peers, managers, and vendors regarding technical matters.
  • Adheres to detailed instructions and possesses strong organizational skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Utilizes hand and power tools as necessary.
  • May work in varying temperature conditions.
  • Physical activities may include standing, walking, bending, and squatting.
