Overview

The Director of Patient Safety and Risk Management is responsible for establishing and executing comprehensive strategies to enhance patient safety and minimize risks within the healthcare environment. This role is pivotal in fostering a culture of safety and accountability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Formulate and enforce best practices in patient safety and risk management to proactively avert patient harm.
  • Oversee investigations into safety incidents, ensuring thorough resolution of issues affecting patients and staff.
  • Maintain meticulous records of patient-related incidents and analyze data to uncover root causes.
  • Gather and scrutinize information from safety programs to propose necessary corrective actions.
  • Advise on policy modifications and programs aimed at preventing future incidents.
  • Design and deliver training sessions to enhance awareness of patient safety protocols.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Manage and mentor staff to optimize their performance and achieve departmental objectives.
  • Facilitate the integration of safety measures through effective policies and procedures.
  • Review occurrence reports to pinpoint clinical risk factors.
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses including root cause and incident analyses.
  • Assist in regulatory surveys and strategic planning as required.
  • Collaborate with Directors to investigate and follow up on significant events.
  • Analyze data trends to identify areas requiring intervention and work with executive leadership to implement solutions.
  • Initiate Probable Claims Reports when necessary.
  • Utilize coaching and conflict resolution skills to foster a positive work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Clinical experience is essential; a Bachelor's Degree is required, while a Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Preferred certifications include CPPS, CPHQ, or CPHRM.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to work autonomously while maintaining accountability.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities within the scope of responsibilities.
  • Consistent attendance and adherence to work schedules are required.
Experience:

A minimum of two to five years of experience in acute care settings or integrated healthcare systems is required, along with extensive knowledge of hospital operations and patient safety protocols.
