ENFORCEMENT AND COMMUNITY SAFETY
Conducts patrols in designated areas during assigned shifts, monitoring for signs of potential criminal activities or threats to public safety; responds to service calls; enforces local, county, and state regulations; engages with the community and completes necessary documentation; may carry out initial and follow-up inquiries into disturbances, prowlers, thefts, robberies, traffic incidents, suspected homicides, and other criminal occurrences.As a Motorcycle Officer, navigates the City on a motorcycle or within a radar-equipped patrol vehicle; addresses calls concerning traffic incidents and other emergencies; observes and manages both routine and unusual traffic situations; assists and advises drivers while enforcing traffic regulations.Executes arrests when required; serves legal documents; performs searches and seizures involving individuals, vehicles, and properties; interviews victims, complainants, and witnesses; interrogates suspects; collects and preserves evidence; processes and transports detainees; provides testimony and presents evidence in judicial proceedings.Collaborates with other law enforcement entities regarding crime investigations and suspect apprehensions.Documents incidents and maintains field notes; engages in professional development; participates in briefings and training sessions; performs routine upkeep on assigned patrol vehicles, firearms, and other equipment.Conducts traffic stops, issuing warnings or citations as necessary; inspects vehicles and observes occupants; investigates vehicle accident scenes, providing emergency medical assistance when needed, directing traffic, and coordinating the clearance of roadways; interviews drivers and witnesses and prepares detailed reports; manages traffic at emergencies, special events, and congested areas.Provides assistance to the public and addresses inquiries; administers first aid and responds to medical emergencies; fosters positive relationships with community members.FACILITY OVERVIEW:
The Police Department operates from a Civic Center established in 1990, which includes various community amenities.QUALIFICATIONS
Age: Candidates must be at least 21 years old.Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.Fitness: Vision must be correctable to 20/30.Applicants must successfully complete a P.O.S.T. approved medical and psychological evaluation.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Completion of a P.O.S.T. approved basic academy and/or recent employment with a California Law Enforcement Agency is necessary for qualifying for a 'pre-service' position.CERTIFICATION
If applicable, a copy of the applicant's P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate must accompany the application. A valid California Driver's License is required prior to appointment.EMPLOYEE BENEFITS:
The City of Ridgecrest offers a tiered cafeteria plan with a minimum monthly allowance for medical, dental, and life insurance. Tuition reimbursement and incentive pay for certain P.O.S.T.
