Position Overview

  • Under the general guidance of the School Principal, to enhance students' comprehension of global cultures and their evolution; to cultivate skills in the examination of social structures; and to promote an understanding of the geographical, historical, cultural, and political elements that shape the development of societies, economic systems, and governance, along with their interconnectedness.
  • To nurture an appreciation for diverse cultures, languages, ethnicities, and political frameworks.
Key Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements a Cultural Studies curriculum aligned with the educational goals of the institution.
  • Creates lesson plans and educational resources, transforming them into engaging learning experiences that challenge students and optimize instructional time.
  • Instructs students in social studies, integrating history, geography, economics, political science, governance systems, civic responsibility, and the humanities.
  • Enhances students' understanding of various cultural, ethnic, religious, and political groups, as well as socioeconomic factors, and their impact on human rights and freedoms.
  • Encourages awareness of historical patterns of human behavior and the complexities of local, national, and global issues and their potential solutions.
  • Illustrates how historical contexts provide a framework for evaluating contemporary issues and forecasting future actions, consistently relating to current significant matters.
  • Develops students' research capabilities, interpersonal skills, and critical thinking through diverse reading, writing, group discussions, and presentations to foster independence in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Promotes critical examination of media influence on information dissemination and public discourse, encouraging students to seek and assess various information sources on pressing global issues.
  • Conducts ongoing evaluations of student learning and progress, adapting teaching methods to meet individual needs, including those of students with special requirements; provides individualized and small group instruction as necessary.
  • Engages in continuous professional development by attending workshops, seminars, or conducting research to stay informed of current educational trends.
  • Maintains an organized system for accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting of student performance and attendance in accordance with district policies and regulations.
  • Fosters parental engagement in students' educational journeys and ensures effective communication with families.
  • Upholds student conduct in alignment with school standards and district policies, establishing a conducive learning environment in the classroom.
  • Collaborates with fellow educators, particularly within grade levels, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and orders appropriate educational materials and maintains inventory records.

Qualifications

Certification/License:
MN Social Studies 7-12

  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an education-related field relevant to the teaching assignment.

Experience:

  • Prior successful teaching experience at the appropriate grade level is preferred.
