About the Role

Georgia Connections Academy is seeking a skilled School Counselor to join our team in providing high-quality education to students in grades 6-12 throughout Georgia. As a Virtual School Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting students and their families in achieving academic success.

The Middle School Counselor will work from our office in Duluth, Georgia, and will be the initial point of contact for students' concerns and non-academic issues. Key responsibilities include advising students and families on academics, career planning, and graduation requirements, as well as assisting with course selection and scheduling.

The successful candidate will have a strong technology skills, excellent communication skills, and a customer-focused approach. Additionally, they must be able to work well in a fast-paced environment and have a high degree of flexibility.

  • Advise students and families on academics, career planning, and graduation requirements.
  • Assist with course selection and scheduling.
  • Keep abreast of high school graduation requirements and communicate this information to the High School Coordinator and principal.
  • Implement programs for students and families related to interpersonal adjustment issues.
  • Work with school teams to identify and help families access school and community resources.
  • Participate in the development of crisis prevention and management plans for the school.
  • Coordinate a team of middle and high school teachers to help identify students who are 'at risk' or 'in crisis.'
  • Oversee and maintain the Personal Learning Plan (PLP) for each student.
  • Support families through the school withdrawal process.
  • Report and refer critical incidents that jeopardize student well-being.

The ideal candidate will have a Georgia service certification in School Counseling and strong technology skills, especially with Microsoft Office products. They must also have excellent communication skills, a customer-focused approach, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
