About this role

Broad responsibility for leading a team of managers to execute against the overall business plan, based on guidance from leadership.

Directs, plans and oversees team initiatives, to ensure implementation and administration of programs align with district goals.

Driven by goals and objectives outlined in the DPS Strategic Roadmap, the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) department leads DPS' efforts to provide students, parents, and families with the resources and support they need to become informed and effective advocates for their students.

The department creates and leverages community and business partnerships, programs, and services that empower families to partner with their students' schools to improve student educational outcomes.

There is a strong focus on supporting students and families facing additional challenges and those attending schools striving for improvement.

Through outreach efforts, grant writing, and partnerships, the department establishes highly effective programs, services, and communication channels to bridge gaps between the district, community, schools, and parents.

The Director must demonstrate a willingness to sign a confidentiality agreement. This role requires maintaining the highest level of confidentiality regarding all District matters, especially those involving the Superintendent, Chief of Staff, and the Board of Education.

Ensuring trust and discretion is paramount to the success and integrity of this position.

What You'll Do
  • Deeply focuses on ensuring alignment to district initiatives by organizing and prioritizing initiatives, formulating a successful agenda, and delivering instructions to managers.
  • Directs teams by coaching and advising managers, including making final decisions, examining and evaluating current processes, and identifying and solving barriers.
  • Develops methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects and programs. Ensures budget and schedules meet all business requirements.
  • Develops policies and programs, authorizes and influences their implementation, uses innovative concepts, and promotes new ideas.
  • Influences projects by participating in initial planning, assigning teams, directing work, evaluating progress, making decisions, and advising on issues.
  • Coordinate and build collaborative relationships with teams in the department and cross-functional departments internally and positively represent DPS in the broader community, which includes school boards, parents, students, teachers, and community members.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, Board of Education policies and regulations, maintain and direct activities related to the District's safety and security efforts.
  • Oversee program/team budget to ensure district compliance in managing program budgets, ledgers, and expenditures and support grant writing for program initiatives as needed.
  • Oversee partnerships, manage and strengthen partnerships with nonprofits, faith communities, neighborhoods, businesses, philanthropic groups, and others to provide services and resources to support schools, students, families, and the community.
  • Review and participate in developing and coaching Family Engagement plans and support or lead the development of other frameworks and plans as needed.
  • Monitor the progress of goals, program implementation, benchmarks, outcomes, and results each week; oversee and conduct staff performance plans.
  • Oversee data collection and program implementation for department programs.
  • Develop strategies for solid community and staff engagement in the design and implementation of the pilots to ensure collaboration across the district in the network and alignment with district and school goals.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social services, public administration, education or a related field is required.
  • Five to seven (5-7) or more years of related experience.
  • Three to five (3-5) years previous supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and completing multiple projects (full life-cycle project planning and implementation), each with corresponding or conflicting completion deadlines, in a constantly and rapidly changing work environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing implementing original research and analysis in order to consider, implement, and maintain projects, initiatives, technologies, and objectives.
  • Demonstrated working experience with a variety of computer hardware and software, including PC and Mac-OSX operating systems, and various proprietary systems and technologies.
  • Demonstrated effective and diplomatic oral and written communication skills, with an emphasis on communications with students, parents, collaborative decision making teams, and the community.
  • Demonstrated experience performing as an effective leader and team player, and recognizing and resolving conflicts or potentially controversial situations through diplomacy.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Experience in analyzing data, and using this data to for process and program improvements and to inform strategy.
  • Outstanding facilitation and communication skills, including ability to inspire others.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.
  • Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization.
  • Self-starter/leader who can anticipate department needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner.
