Medical Billing and Records Coordinator

Position: Medical Records Clerk / Medical Billing Clerk
Role Summary:
The Medical Records Clerk / Medical Billing Clerk is responsible for managing patient data and ensuring the accuracy of medical billing processes. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of insurance claim procedures, including handling Explanation of Benefits (EOB), denials, and appeals. The successful candidate will collect and organize patient information for medical record requests.
Work Schedule:
Full-time position, Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM. Schedules may vary based on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, clients, and staff, both in person and through various communication channels.
- Provide exceptional customer service, including managing medical records requests, appeal inquiries, and addressing patient concerns regarding insurance matters.
- Work independently while collaborating with the laboratory billing team, Laboratory Manager, and Client Services Assistant.
- Exhibit strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
- Manage correspondence from insurance companies, including medical records requests, denials, EOBs, payments, and appeals.
- Ensure confidentiality of all medical and billing records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform additional administrative tasks such as answering phones, responding to emails, and managing filing and documentation.
- Assist with special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of HIPAA compliance training and certification is necessary.
- Ability to adhere to the agreed-upon work schedule.
- Dependability and punctuality for assigned shifts are essential.
- Maintain a valid driver's license.
- Exhibit professionalism in all interactions with clients and their representatives.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Capable of using hands, seeing, and hearing effectively.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Proficient in typing and using a computer for prolonged periods.
Employment Conditions:
- Employment is contingent upon a favorable pre-employment drug screening.
- Must have a satisfactory driving record and pass a background check.
- Maintaining a valid driver's license is required.
Work Environment:
The Medical Records Clerk will operate within the Hunter Care Health office, collaborating closely with the offsite billing company and on-site laboratory management.
