Vision Care Specialist

Position Overview:
The Vision Care Specialist is responsible for assessing patients with a comprehensive range of visual issues, diagnosing ocular diseases, disorders, and deficiencies, and providing appropriate treatment as per licensure and accreditation.
Key Responsibilities:
Conducts thorough examinations of patients experiencing various visual challenges utilizing a complete array of optometric tools and methodologies.
Identifies ocular diseases, disorders, and deficiencies, prescribing treatment in accordance with the regulations of the relevant state.
Evaluates the visual needs of patients with partial sight and recommends low-vision aids such as telescopic and microscopic lenses, magnifiers, and other optical devices to assist low-vision individuals.
In compliance with state regulations or under the guidance of a physician, employs diagnostic pharmaceutical agents to identify and assess ocular conditions.
Refers patients to other suitable Kaiser Permanente specialists for further assessment and treatment as needed.
Engages in departmental and educational meetings, including peer review sessions within the department and medical facility.
Collaborates regularly with internal medicine, pediatrics, and ophthalmology regarding patient care matters.
Contributes to the development and implementation of eye care educational programs for medical center personnel and at patient education events.
Under the guidance of a physician and in partnership with an ophthalmologist, assesses and manages anterior segment disorders.
Qualifications:
Experience
A minimum of one (1) year of experience or successful completion of an accredited optometry residency program is required.
Education
Graduation from an accredited optometry institution is mandatory.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
Must hold a valid Optometrist license in the state where services are rendered.
National Provider Identifier
Additional Requirements:
Enrollment in PECOS within 90 days of employment is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least two (2) years of experience in a collaborative healthcare environment is preferred, or successful completion of an accredited residency program.
