Welder/Structure Development Specialist

Huntington Ingalls Industries, a leading provider of nuclear-powered warships, is seeking a skilled Welder/Structure Development Specialist to join our team at Newport News Shipbuilding. As a key member of our fabrication and welding team, you will play a critical role in the design, construction, and repair of the world's most advanced naval ships.

About the Role
  • As a Welder/Structure Development Specialist, you will be responsible for performing structural and/or pipe welds in all phases of ship construction, ensuring high-quality results and adherence to industry standards.
  • You will utilize a range of welding processes, including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), to perform tack, fillet, and full penetration welding on steel foundations and structural and pipe joints.
  • You will work closely with our team of experienced welders and fabricators to ensure seamless integration of structural components and efficient project delivery.

Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a degree in a related field, such as welding engineering or materials science, is preferred.
  • Ability to work at extreme heights or in small, confined spaces.
  • Ability to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb, with a maximum weight capacity of 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to pass a Physical Agility and Respirator Fit assessment.
