Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Elementary Food Service Manager to join our team at the Granite School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the serving kitchen in the school, ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the preparation of approved menus and recipes, and oversee the serving of meals according to established policies and procedures.
  • Direct, assign, and schedule staff to ensure efficient use of labor and effective meal service.
  • Conduct training sessions for new employees, track hours worked, and provide evaluation input and address performance issues.
  • Plan and coordinate daily work to ensure efficient use of labor and minimize waste.
  • Ensure equipment, storage, food preparation, and service areas are maintained in a sanitary condition and comply with established policies and procedures, including state and federal requirements.
  • Implement school meal menus as created by the central kitchen, and estimate and order food, condiments, and supplies to meet meal projections.
  • Supervise and participate in food preparation and serving to students and school personnel, and ensure proper leftover use and documentation.
  • Check freezers, refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, etc. to ensure proper operating temperature is being maintained and sanitation standards are being upheld.
  • Maintain special diet plan paperwork, and coordinate special diet plans with appropriate school and district personnel.
  • Communicate with students, staff, school and district personnel, parents, etc. to exchange information, receive suggestions, and resolve issues related to Food Services.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Food Safety Manager certification from a Utah Department of Health approved entity.
  • Six months of job-related experience, with previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and skills in the management and maintenance of an elementary school kitchen, including positive public relations, basic reading, writing, and math skills, and knowledge in completing preorders, production records, warehouse orders, running point-of-service.
  • Ability to understand the different nutrient regulations associated with each program, and ability to successfully organize and supervise kitchen staff and create schedules to meet meal service needs.
Working Environment

The Elementary Food Service Manager will work in a standard commercial kitchen environment, with daily exposure to heat, cold, and humidity. The position requires steady flow of work, with occasional interruptions, and constant pressure to complete tasks and meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and/or hear, frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, and crouch. Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel, and must occasionally climb or balance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, and lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
