Qualifications and Certifications

  • Completion of a food handler training course accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or the Texas Department of State Health Services (TXDSHS) is required, or you must obtain this certification within sixty (60) days of starting the role.

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions effectively.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food service operations and adherence to sanitation protocols within three months of employment.
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues and team members.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to perform data entry within three months.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Deliver patient meal trays and late trays, ensuring bedside tables are set up appropriately. Address special meal requests and provide in-between meal snacks.
  2. Distribute menus to patients, assist with menu selections, and collect completed menus.
  3. Communicate patient food and nutrition concerns to the diet office and clinical staff, verifying diet orders with nursing staff prior to meal delivery.
  4. Collaborate with unit staff regarding nourishment and food service requirements.
  5. Assist Clinical Dietitians in monitoring patients with specific dietary needs.
  6. Maintain cleanliness by addressing spills in patient areas and transporting soiled trays to the kitchen.
  7. Ensure high-quality service as reflected in patient satisfaction surveys.
  8. Understand dietary restrictions for modified diets to meet patient preferences within dietary guidelines.
  9. Engage in continuous education by attending required training sessions and reviewing relevant materials to enhance knowledge in Nutrition Services.

Accountability and Professional Development

  1. Identify opportunities for process improvement and enhance customer satisfaction, making recommendations to supervisors as necessary.
  2. Stay informed about the latest developments in the field through seminars, workshops, and professional organizations, integrating new knowledge into work practices.
  3. Maintain awareness of applicable regulations and guidelines, developing internal controls to ensure compliance with laws and accreditation requirements.
