Urban Planning Manager

We are seeking an experienced Urban Planning Manager to join our team in the City of Westminster, CA. This is a pivotal leadership position that requires expertise in interpreting and applying zoning ordinances, guiding general plan updates, and ensuring compliance with state regulations and environmental laws.
About the Role- This role is responsible for managing all current and advanced planning programs, projects, and activities of the Planning Division.
- You will lead the resolution of complex planning challenges, drive innovative solutions for the community, and mentor and develop a team of experienced planners and administrative staff.
- You will also oversee the dissemination of crucial planning and zoning information to the public, developers, engineers, property owners, and contractors.
- Plan, organize, oversee, coordinate, and review the work of professional, technical, and administrative staff performing difficult and complex professional and technical support related to all programs and activities of the Planning Division.
- Manage the effective use of the City's planning resources to improve organizational productivity and customer service.
- Provide highly complex and responsible support to the Community Development Director in areas of expertise.
- Represent the planning division, department, and City in disputes and litigation, facilitate community participation through ongoing dialogue with residents on major projects, and act as a liaison to the Planning Commission.
- Bachelor's degree in urban planning, geography, architecture, or a related field.
- 5 years of increasingly responsible management and/or administrative experience in professional urban planning, including 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.
- Institute of Certified Planners Certification is desirable but not required.
