Job Summary

Brevard County is seeking a highly skilled Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our team. As a key member of our Utility Services Department, you will be responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and housekeeping of our water treatment facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain water treatment plant equipment, including pumps, motors, and other machinery.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests, including chlorine residual tests, and calibrate equipment as needed.
  • Work with a team to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the water treatment facilities.
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve issues and improve processes.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, as required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
  • Five (5) years of documented hands-on experience working on-site in a water treatment facility for TPO Class A - Water, three (3) years for TPO Class B - Water, and one (1) year for TPO Class C - Water.
  • A valid Florida Driver's license and a valid active Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Class A, Class B, or Class C Drinking Water Operator's license.
  • The ability to work planned and unplanned overtime, standby, and call-out duties on a rotational basis, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with varying temperatures, humidity levels, and exposure to chemicals and solvents. You must be able to wear and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

  1. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull 50 lbs or more.
  2. In an eight-hour day, the employee may have to stand, walk, sit, and drive for varying periods.
  3. The employee must repetitively perform tasks such as pulling, fine manipulation, operating foot controls, pushing, and simple grasping.
  4. The employee must be able to balance, bend, climb, crawl, dig, jump, kneel, reach, run, smell, and stoop.
  5. The employee must have good distant vision, good hearing, good near vision, good speech, and the ability to use both eyes.
