Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and Mechanic to join our team at Brevard County. As a key member of our Utility Services Department, you will be responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and housekeeping of our wastewater treatment facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain wastewater treatment plant equipment, including pumps, motors, blowers, and other equipment.
  • Take samples of sewage, effluents, and sludge, and perform simple laboratory tests.
  • Clean treatment plant structures and equipment, and perform mechanical repairs on tanks, pumps, and other equipment.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to ensure the efficient operation of our wastewater treatment facilities.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, as required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
  • Five (5) years of documented hands-on experience working on-site in a wastewater treatment facility, plus two (2) years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment for TPO Class A/Mechanic - WW.
  • Three (3) years of documented hands-on experience working on-site in a wastewater treatment facility, plus two (2) years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment for TPO Class B/Mechanic - WW.
  • One (1) year of documented hands-on experience working on-site in a wastewater treatment facility, plus two (2) years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment for TPO Class C/Mechanic - WW.
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to chemicals, solvents, and other hazardous materials. You will also be required to work at heights, in cold and hot temperatures, and in areas with poor lighting and ventilation.

Please note that this is a physically demanding role, requiring the ability to lift, carry, and push heavy objects, as well as work in confined spaces.
