Position Summary
The Spiritual Care Provider offers compassionate spiritual guidance and support to patients, families, and associates across diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. This role involves providing ethical and spiritual counsel to aid patients and families in making informed treatment decisions. The provider also cultivates a spiritually enriching environment within the healthcare setting by participating in or organizing prayer services on significant occasions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personalized spiritual care visits to patients in designated areas, offering ongoing support as needed.
- Respond promptly and thoughtfully to spiritual care requests from patients and families.
- Facilitate sacramental referrals to appropriate clergy or chaplains when requested.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of spiritual care interactions.
- Continuously enhance professional expertise and skills in the field of spiritual care.
Qualifications
- Endorsement from a recognized ecclesiastical authority aligned with denominational practices.
- Demonstrated affiliation with an established religious community or body.
- Theological training or significant experience in ministry, preferably within a hospital setting. A Bachelor's degree in Ministry, Master of Divinity (MDiv), or a related field is highly desirable.
- Completion of at least four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).
- Commitment to pursuing Board Certification within two years of employment. Board Certification or certification-eligibility (BCC) in one or more of the following is preferred: Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or the Association of Jewish Chaplains (AJC).

- Comprehensive understanding of Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
- Demonstrated integrity and ethical conduct in all professional relationships.
- Ability to thrive in a demanding and compassionate healthcare environment.
- Exceptional oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in utilizing computer systems, printers, telephones, and other relevant office equipment.
Experience
Two years of experience providing spiritual care in a hospital or hospice setting is required.
