Job Title: Pathology Specialist

The Pathology Specialist plays a crucial role in providing accurate and timely testing and results to requesting physicians and other healthcare professionals for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize excellent customer service skills to both internal and external customers at all times.
  • Consistently provide accurate and timely testing and results.
  • Perform procedures, evaluate and report results as outlined in the manual of standard operating procedures.
  • Notify ordering physicians of panic values as required.
  • Participate in teaching new employees, students, residents, etc. in areas that competency is demonstrated.

Requirements:

  • Certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) or equivalent categorical certification preferred.
  • Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Cytogenetics (CLSp(CG)) certification within three (3) years of employment in position (applies to Cytogenetics Lab only).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience utilizing laboratory principles, procedures and technical skills.
  • Minimum of a Bachelors of Science Degree in a Life Science from an accredited program*.
  • Master's of Science Degree in Life Science from an accredited program preferred.

Work Environment:

  • Rotating weekends as required.
  • Holiday scheduling as required.
  • On call availability, as required and for emergency coverage on any shift.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting less than 20 lbs.
  • Lifting 20-50 lbs.
  • Exposure to biohazards and potentially infectious body fluids.
