A dynamic opportunity is available for an Electrical Construction Estimating Director to join William Charles Construction, a renowned construction company with a rich history dating back over a century. Salary: $160,000 - $180,000 per year
Job Summary:
The Electrical Construction Estimating Director will be responsible for leading the electrical estimating department, overseeing bid processes for high voltage electrical construction projects, and managing resources effectively. This role involves directing staff, improving estimating practices, and ensuring effective communication across departments to meet corporate objectives. The ideal candidate must possess strong leadership skills and extensive experience in construction estimating to guide the team's development and enhance project success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the firm's estimating activities, including pre-bid attendance, bid management, cost databases, estimating software, and implementing/improving all estimating practices.
- Conduct/attend project meetings/huddles as needed to communicate project requirements and ensure effective collaboration among disciplines and parties.
- Establish timelines and estimating goals for effective and timely submittals, working closely with the Preconstruction Manager to achieve department objectives.
- Develop department protocol for best estimating practices, review/approve bids, specifications, drawings, and contracts to proactively solve potential issues.
- Instruct preconstruction staff on project requirements and owner directives, developing a plan to meet stated goals and assist with time extensions negotiation when necessary.
- Act as Hiring Manager for the department, evaluating staffing needs, producing requisitions for new resources, conducting interviews, and evaluating candidates with HR.
- Perform weekly timesheet reviews of all estimating staff, reviewing and approving data submitted by staff, including proposals, presentations, and contract negotiations.
- Ensure quality of services provided by the estimating staff meets project requirements, coordinating and approving employee requests for time off, ensuring proper staffing at all times.
Requirements:
- Proven high-level construction estimating experience with leadership and mentoring skills.
- A proven track record of successfully leading, teaching, developing, and mentoring others, with a solid understanding of contractual requirements, conceptual estimating, design drawings, and project specifications.
- Strong presentation skills, verbal/written communication skills, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams, possessing knowledge of the industry's leading estimating software and risk assessment analysis.
- Ability to independently produce conceptual estimates, manage multiple projects/activities in a dynamic environment, and demonstrate expertise relative to constructability as applied to construction methods and materials and economics involved.
- Experience with Microsoft Project and Primavera P6, Microsoft Office, Bid2Win, and other relevant software.
