Oncology Nurse Practitioner Opportunity at Presbyterian Healthcare Services

About the Opportunity:
We are seeking an Oncology Nurse Practitioner to join our Cancer Care Program in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. As a member of our team, you will provide consultative care services to patients with oncology and hematologic diseases, including obtaining pertinent history, performing examinations, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, and prescribing medications and treatment.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and assess patients for high risk of cancer, oncology, and hematologic disorders and manage high risk clinic for breast cancer.
- Use appropriate judgment to work autonomously and collaborate with the healthcare team to manage patient care throughout the continuum in various settings, including Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, and Radiology.
- Conduct hospital rounds on assigned oncology/hematology and radiation oncology patients.
- Educate physician groups regarding high risk models for breast and GI cancers; educate and counsel individuals and families for high risk of cancer and radiation follow-up.
- Order, conduct, and implement genetic counseling for patients and work in coordination with certified genetic counselor.
- Continuously monitor radiation patients, evaluate effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, and report outcomes to appropriate physician.
- Dictate specific notes as directed by supervising physician, including consultation notes, follow-up notes, radiation treatment summaries, and quality assurance notes.
- Participate in radiation chart rounds, prepare medication orders and follow-up instructions for radiation patients, and contribute to overall patient care.
- Screen symptom calls and triage to radiation, medical, surgical, or breast oncologists, as needed.
- Serve as healthcare resource and patient advocate and perform other functions as required.
Credentials Required:
For Nurse Practitioner: Masters degree in Nursing, New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license, federal and state DEA license, and ANCC or AANP certification required. Minimum of one year experience preferred but not required.
For Physician Assistant: Baccalaureate prepared CAHEA Certified Physician Assistant or two (2) years working experience as a Certified Physician Assistant, and licensed by the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners required. Minimum of one year experience preferred but not required.
