Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Technician to join our team at the Kem and Carolyn Gardner Mental Health Crisis Care Center. As a Psychiatric Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support to individuals experiencing mental health crises.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, including observing and documenting patient behavior and reporting any concerns to the nursing staff.
  • Perform or assist with patient admissions, including gathering routine information for nursing assessment and searching patients and belongings for contraband.
  • Orient patients and their families to the facility and its policies and procedures.
  • Escort patients to off-unit appointments and activities, using therapeutic interventions to ensure patient safety and well-being.
  • Assist with providing a therapeutic milieu for patients, including encouraging participation in recreational activities and group therapies.
  • Support patients in developing behavioral expectations and participate in patient care team conferences to share observations and contribute to treatment planning.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or equivalent 2 years of experience or a year of college and one year related experience.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 50 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing care in a psychiatric setting.

Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases.
