Job Summary

This role provides a safe and supportive environment for psychiatric patients, assisting with basic patient care needs and contributing to a therapeutic milieu.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and hazard-free environment by observing and documenting patient behavior, conducting patient room searches, and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Perform or assist with patient admissions, gathering routine information for nursing assessment, and searching patients and belongings for contraband.
  • Orient patients and their families to the facility and its policies and procedures.
  • Escort patients to off-unit appointments and activities, using therapeutic interventions to ensure safety.
  • Assist in providing a therapeutic milieu by encouraging patients to participate in recreational activities and group therapies.
  • Support patients through activity and conversation groups, and assist in developing patient behavioral expectations.
  • May function as a preceptor to new Psychiatric Technicians, and assist with unit training and quality assurance programs.
  • Participate in patient care team conferences, sharing observations of patient progress and assisting with treatment planning.
Requirements
  • Six months of behavioral health or direct patient care experience, including CNA, MA, HCA, or Teacher's aide experience.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position involves intensive work, requiring lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment or patients, while providing care in a psychiatric setting.

Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases.
