ABOUT GENERAL MERCHANDISE

Our team excels in operations, processes, and efficiency, ensuring a consistent experience for our guests by maintaining product availability, accurate pricing, and clear signage on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team oversees inbound and outbound logistics, inventory accuracy, presentation, pricing, and promotional signage for all General Merchandise (GM) areas within the store. This team also leads Food & Beverage and Food Service, ensuring a fresh and safe food experience. Our experts facilitate efficient delivery to guests by managing pick, pack, and ship fulfillment tasks.

As a General Merchandise Specialist, you will gain:

  • Insight into guest service fundamentals and experience fostering a guest-first culture throughout the store.
  • Knowledge of retail business essentials, including department sales trends, inventory management, and process optimization.
  • Experience in executing daily and weekly tasks to support business objectives and achieve sales targets.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Creating a welcoming atmosphere by genuinely greeting all guests.
  • Observing guest interactions to determine if assistance is needed, tailoring your approach based on body language and verbal cues.
  • Engaging with guests authentically, asking questions to better understand their needs.
  • Being knowledgeable about tools, products, and services available in the store to enhance guest experiences.
  • Expressing gratitude to guests and ensuring they feel valued for choosing Target.
  • Taking ownership of specific GM areas to ensure the sales floor is organized, stocked, and accurately signed for guests.
  • Prioritizing daily tasks based on sales trends and guest needs while minimizing disruptions.
  • Ensuring promotional signage is set accurately and being knowledgeable about advertised products.
  • Executing revisions, sales plans, and planograms for all GM categories.
  • Assisting with non-GM areas of the store as needed.
  • Conducting weekly price changes for all GM categories.
  • Completing Radio Frequency ID (RFID) scans and system audits to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Efficiently processing all inbound deliveries to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Maintaining organization and accuracy in backroom areas.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
  • Supporting guest services such as back-up cashier and order pick-up while adhering to compliance regulations.
  • Performing additional duties as required by business needs.
