Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Nutritionist 1 to join our team at the New York State Department of Health. The successful candidate will provide technical assistance to local WIC agencies on nutrition, breastfeeding, and outreach activities, as well as central office initiatives and projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance to local WIC agencies on nutrition, breastfeeding, and outreach activities
  • Monitor local agency progress in meeting federal and state regulations and achieving required goals and objectives
  • Serve as a regional contact and resource for food, nutrition, breastfeeding, and health information
  • Participate in program planning, meetings, and workgroups
  • Analyze metrics to prepare reports
  • Develop regional goals and objectives
  • Communicate daily with team members
  • Work with Central Office to revise policies
Requirements
  • Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Two years of full-time professional experience in the field of nutrition or dietetics
  • Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Health, Public Health, Public Administration, Health (Care/Services) Administration, Nutrition Education, Health Education, Community Health, Health Care Policy and Management, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work/Social Welfare, Human and Social Services, Early Childhood Education, or Public Policy may be substituted for one year of experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a multi-faceted public health nutrition program
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of maternal infant and child nutrition
  • Proficiency with computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, handling multiple priorities
What We Offer

  • Travel covers a 15-county area with some statewide travel, including overnights
  • Non-competitive appointment may be made under the NY HELPS program
