Job Title: Staff Accountant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Accountant to join our team at Charles County Public Schools. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for managing, preparing, and analyzing financial and accounting records to ensure accuracy and compliance with reporting procedures and standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and prepare financial and accounting records, including budgeting, accounting, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Serve as liaison between federal, state, local, and other auditors from government or monitoring agencies.
  • Prepare journal entries to record financial activity, reclassifications, and corrections to the general ledger.
  • Examine and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Maintain and document up-to-date accounting policies and procedures, including internal controls.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
  • Master's degree and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • 5+ years governmental accounting or related experience required, with an emphasis on financial processing, general ledger, cash management, internal controls, and audits of local government agencies preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with financial reporting and analysis, cash management, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Outlook, and Word required.
  • Experience with dynamic ERP systems (Oracle Cloud preferred).
