About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Water Systems Engineer to join our team at Southwest Water Company. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for assisting in the planning and completion of complex water system improvements and other operational and engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare estimates, design layouts, specifications, and operating procedures for the installation of transmission mains, distribution mains, services, hydrants, natural gas engines, electric motors, pumps, boosters, chlorinating equipment, storage facilities, treatment facilities, and other mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Prepare various reports and information requests as necessary. Assist with the update and improvement of the Company's Standard Specifications and Drawings.
  • Determine the requirements of specific projects and prepare designs to meet those requirements, including the requirements of governmental agencies and their design standards.
  • Assure that projects are completed on a timely basis in the most cost-effective and safe manner and make sure that operation instructions are prepared.
  • Visit construction projects on a regular basis to review progress of construction and coordinate with Suburban inspectors and contractors.
  • Provide design direction for water and wastewater pipelines ranging in various sizes; wells with capacities to 6,000 gpm and motor sizes to 500 horsepower; steel and concrete reservoirs and other facilities associated with water and wastewater systems, including simple buildings, electrical, and telemetry systems.
  • Assist in planning a preventive maintenance program and a yearly maintenance schedule during low production periods to maintain top efficiency during the peak periods of water production and wastewater treatment.
  • Assist in the preparation of an effective master plan and/or timely plant improvement and replacement program.
  • Prepare hydraulic analysis and water or effluent flow calculations and provide analysis for new and future developments as required.
  • Write proposals for contract projects. Identify and establish needs for outside consultants. Prepare Requests for Proposal and participate in the evaluation and selection of consultants.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • The ability to obtain an EIT Certification within six months of employment.
