Aurora, Colorado, United States Primoris Services Corporation Full time

Job Overview:

The Solar Energy Performance Specialist will play a crucial role in the energy modeling and performance assessment of photovoltaic (PV) systems during various project phases, including proposal, engineering iterations, and construction. This individual will focus on optimizing solar PV system sizes based on client energy generation requirements. Collaboration with third-party engineering firms during the design phase is essential to ensure that MET equipment is accurately represented in construction documents. Additionally, this role will involve supporting the Senior Performance Engineer in validating that the capacity output of PV plants aligns with contractual obligations during performance testing. Close coordination with construction and commissioning teams will be necessary to address performance diagnostics and functionality during the construction, commissioning, and warranty phases of projects.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create PVsyst energy generation models for both project proposals and executed projects, accommodating various solar PV module technologies such as monofacial, bifacial, and thin-film. Assist in the development of performance testing contracts and engage in technical discussions with clients. Analyze utility-scale PV systems' modeled and measured performance using PVsyst to establish linear regressions in compliance with ASTM E standards. Determine system availability based on data collected from SCADA systems or on-site evaluations as required. Contribute to ongoing research initiatives aimed at enhancing the modeling of PV systems throughout their operational lifespan. Provide commissioning and performance testing assistance to the Operations and Site Construction teams. Utilize expertise regarding potential PV system component failures and modeling challenges to troubleshoot systems that are underperforming relative to expected capacity and energy production. Prepare comprehensive test reports and deliver technical presentations on testing outcomes to clients as necessary. Review field-testing data, including PV array infrared imaging and open-circuit voltage assessments, to detect performance issues or component failures. Identify fault patterns based on electrical characteristics and validate evidence for potential warranty claims. Engage in discussions with clients to address inquiries regarding PV system performance and suggest appropriate next steps for performance investigations. Design data visualizations and written reports tailored for diverse audiences, from technical experts to management. Draft work orders under existing Master Service Agreements for third-party subject matter experts and consultants. Assist the Senior Performance Engineer in scheduling tasks during pre-construction and construction phases of projects. Support the Request for Quote (RFQ) process by collaborating with MET vendors to assist the Estimating Department. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Data Analytics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution. 2-5 years of experience in modeling modules, racking, inverters, and related equipment for effective energy modeling of utility-scale solar PV projects.

PREFERRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Proficient understanding of manufacturer modeling parameters, application limitations, and commissioning guidelines. Strong ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage assigned tasks and projects with minimal supervision. Capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive demeanor in challenging situations. Excellent interpersonal skills for professional interactions with various external parties. Strong organizational skills to document and track issues from inception to resolution. Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a knack for analyzing situations and proposing solutions. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. Proficient in PVsyst and Microsoft Office, with a demonstrated ability to model expected system output for utility-scale PV projects using PVsyst or similar software. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Competent in reading and interpreting technical plans and specifications.
