Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Wendell, Idaho. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing individualized instruction and support to students with special needs, helping them reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Implement Customized Education Plans: Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that address each student's unique needs and goals.
  • Adjust and Differentiate Instructional Techniques: Adapt instructional methods and materials to accommodate various learning styles and abilities, ensuring an inclusive and effective learning environment.
  • Conduct Comprehensive Assessments: Evaluate students' academic and behavioral progress through regular assessments and evaluations.
  • Keep Detailed Records: Maintain accurate records of student performance and update IEPs as needed, ensuring seamless communication with parents and guardians.
  • Collaborate with General Education Teachers: Work closely with general education teachers to support the inclusion of special education students in mainstream classrooms, promoting a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Regular Communication: Maintain open and regular communication with parents and guardians, discussing student progress and addressing any concerns or questions.
  • Supervise and Guide Teaching Assistants: Provide guidance and supervision to teaching assistants and paraprofessionals, ensuring they are equipped to support students effectively.
  • Ongoing Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed about current best practices in special education, ensuring you remain up-to-date and effective in your role.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education: Hold a Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid Idaho Teaching Certificate: Possess a valid Idaho teaching certificate with a Special Education endorsement (K-12).
  • Praxis II Exam: Successfully complete the required Praxis II exam(s) in Special Education.
  • Strong Understanding of Special Education Laws: Demonstrate a strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Possess excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
  • Experience in Creating IEPs: Have experience in creating and implementing IEPs, with a proven track record of success.

Licensure and Certification Requirements:

  • Idaho Standard Instructional Certificate: Hold an Idaho Standard Instructional Certificate with a Special Education endorsement.
  • Praxis II Exam: Possess a passing score on the required Praxis II exam(s).
  • Background Check and Fingerprint Clearance: Complete a background check and fingerprint clearance as mandated by the Idaho State Department of Education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Special Education: Possess a Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Experience Working with a Broad Range of Disabilities: Have experience working with a broad range of disabilities, with a proven ability to adapt and support students with diverse needs.
  • Familiarity with Assistive Technology: Demonstrate familiarity with assistive technology and its classroom applications, with a willingness to learn and adapt new tools and strategies.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to Lift and Move: Possess the ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds, with the capacity to sit, stand, and navigate the classroom for extended periods.
  • Physical Ability to Perform Interventions: Demonstrate the physical ability to perform interventions and manage the physical demands associated with student needs.

Work Environment:

  • School Environment: The position is set in a school environment with moderate noise levels.
  • Regular Interaction: Regular interaction with students, parents, teachers, and administrative staff is required.
