About the Position

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is seeking a highly skilled Air Quality Engineer to join our team in the Engineering Division. As an Air Quality Engineer, you will play a critical role in evaluating permit applications, reviewing permit renewals, and providing technical support to other agency programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate permit applications and review permit renewals for equipment and operations that emit air pollutants in the Air District's jurisdiction.
  • Provide technical support to other agency programs and assist businesses, trade associations, agencies, environmental groups, and community members with issues related to permitting and compliance.
  • Conduct on-site compliance inspections of sources and abatement devices, evaluate compliance, and recommend enforcement actions.
  • Use a computer terminal and a variety of software and programs to make engineering calculations, enter and retrieve data, and monitor and correct data entry.
  • Conduct toxic risk screening and risk assessment analyses, calculate toxic emissions, determine and apply appropriate air dispersion models, calculate maximum concentrations, and calculate risk.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in environmental, chemical, mechanical, or petroleum engineering or a closely related field.
  • Two years of experience in mechanical, industrial, chemical, petroleum, or related process engineering, or two years of air quality environmental engineering experience.
