Pretrial Case Manager II/Alternative Courts Specialist

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Alternative Courts/Specialty Programs department, this Pretrial Case Manager II will assist in the functions of the Alternative Courts/Specialty Programs with defendants/clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of pretrial release programs and be able to effectively communicate with clients and court personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Document criminal records and references
  • Complete backgrounds, interview clients, collect client data, assess the data, and determine client eligibility
  • Compile data for client files
  • Act as a liaison between the District Attorney's Office and Judge/Court, and the client
  • Submit client files with recommendations to the Court for action
  • Supervise clients with or without a monitoring device
  • Conduct weekly warrants checks on clients
  • Coordinate and verify client release from custody and court appearance dates and times
  • Prepare court reports
  • Notify Lead Community Corrections Case Manager or appropriate Alternative Court Programs Representative of any program violations
  • Attend client court hearings and staffings for Alternative Court Program
  • Install and supervise clients on electronic/alcohol monitoring equipment
  • Supervise a caseload
  • Be subject to on-call status
  • Collect urinalysis samples
Requirements

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Skill in assessing and evaluating individuals
  • Skill in eliciting pertinent personal information
  • Skill in interpreting criminal records
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of pretrial release programs
  • Knowledge of city/county/state/federal codes and regulations pertaining to criminal codes and court services
  • Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures
  • Ability to utilize a personal computer
  • Ability to deal tactfully with others
  • Ability to express facts and opinions clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field of study
  • 2 years of satisfactory full-time paid employment in criminal justice or a related field of work

  • NCIC Certification

The work environment is typically moderate noise level.
