Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advisor to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will provide academic advising and counseling services to students, ensuring their successful transition from application to certificate or degree completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Manager to ensure the goals and objectives of advising are met.
  • Provide academic advising and counseling information services to students through structured individual and group meetings.
  • Monitor students' academic progress and maintain detailed records of their progress.
  • Conduct referrals for students as necessary.
  • Assist with program review and student retention efforts, including surveys, focus groups, orientation sessions, workshops, and intervention groups.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians to support students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support student success.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and experience working with students from low-income, disadvantaged educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to assist students in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Minimum of one year of experience advising or counseling in a college setting.
  • FAFSA knowledge and experience in financial aid.
  • Working knowledge of college and university admissions, transfer policies, and financial assistance processes.
  • Proven commitment to college student population.
  • Ability to work in teams and maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with college students.
  • Experience working in a community college.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Financial Aid.
  • Outstanding programming skills to enhance the quality of academic and personal lives of students.
  • Experience with Datatel Colleague.
Work Environment

This is a part-time position with a maximum of 19 hours per week. The successful candidate will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 1:00 pm, with the possibility of working evenings during peak registration.

Compensation

The minimum starting hourly rate is $20.
