What We're Looking For

We're seeking a skilled SQL Database Administrator to join our Database Operations Team. This team is responsible for the operation and delivery of our customer-facing Software as a Service (SaaS) and custom hosting products. The successful candidate will perform daily operational processes, troubleshoot events, and fulfill customer requests for database services. This role will work alongside Database Engineers and Database Reliability Engineers, with opportunities for advancement.

A Typical Day

The ideal candidate will perform monitoring, administration, repair, and maintenance of SQL databases within customer-hosted environments. They will actively contribute to the configuration, layout, and performance tuning of production infrastructure. The candidate will respond to service requests, troubleshoot issues, and assist with customer implementations and upgrades. They will also support requests for unscheduled database backups and restores, attend weekly meetings, and participate in rotating 24x7 on-call support coverage for data center-related issues. Additionally, the candidate will perform maintenance-related activities during scheduled weekend maintenance windows, create and update existing documentation of processes and procedures, and ensure adherence to security, availability, confidentiality, and privacy policies and controls. The candidate will also participate in capacity management, expansion, and growth planning.

Requirements

We're looking for a candidate with excellent critical thinking skills, a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, and a minimum of 5 years of related experience. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of SQL and Windows, knowledge of AWS and Azure, and the ability to detect and troubleshoot database-related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space, and other resource contention issues. The candidate must be able to exercise judgment within defined procedures to determine appropriate action and have strong organizational and multi-tasking skills to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with Agile Development Practices and knowledge of various high availability and disaster recovery solutions are also desirable. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent is required, and certifications or an interest in pursuing certification are a plus. The position requires fluent written and oral communication in English, and applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
