Job Summary

Kirkwood Community College is seeking a part-time English faculty member to teach a variety of English courses. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching writing-intensive courses under minimal supervision, as well as tutoring at the college's on-site Writing Centers and Center for Online Writing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach English courses, including Composition I, Composition II, Elements of Writing, Fiction, and Basic Writing
  • Develop and implement curriculum in accordance with established syllabi
  • Evaluate and record student performance and progress, providing timely feedback
  • Make student referrals to college personnel as needed
  • Represent the college in a positive manner with students, clients, and the community
Requirements
  • Master's degree in English, Communication, Creative Writing, Journalism, Literature, Speech, Technical Writing, or English Education
  • At least 18 graduate hours in English or Communication, with at least 6 hours in English
  • Experience teaching college writing at all levels, preferably at a community college
  • Significant graduate coursework in English, Literature, Writing, or Rhetoric
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with teaching at a community college
  • Experience teaching college composition at all levels
  • Writing center or teaching experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with English Language Learners
