Wood is currently seeking a Senior Fire Protection / Process Safety Engineer to contribute to various projects at our Houston campus. The scope of work will primarily involve providing insights, analysis, and oversight related to Process Hazards Analysis (PHA), Risk Management, and Fire Protection evaluations. The projects will encompass both onshore and offshore facilities. Candidates should possess the following skills and attributes:

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Utilize advanced technical expertise to execute or oversee technical safety tasks with minimal supervision. Expected to lead technical safety efforts on mid-sized projects.
  • Conduct, engage in, and assess qualitative and quantitative evaluations across a diverse range of projects, resulting in individual assessments of potential impacts associated with various project hazards.
  • Experience in coordinating desktop evaluations that incorporate consequence modeling related to fire and explosion risk assessments, facility siting studies, dispersion and thermal radiation modeling, and Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA).
  • Thorough understanding of system concepts and software modeling pertinent to specialized fire protection systems design, including software related to fire & gas detection mapping and fire water systems hydraulic analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of fire protection codes and standards relevant to Oil and Gas / Process and Chemical facilities. Capable of producing and reviewing philosophies, specifications, reports, and drawings related to fire protection and safety systems and equipment.
  • Possess innovative problem-solving skills, including optimization and processing of software inputs and outputs using programming or other specialized methods.
  • Able to generate, verify, and amend technical reports and calculations pertinent to the required job skills.
  • Initiate and maintain regular communication between the technical safety team and other engineering disciplines to ensure a high level of collaboration between the work performed and the overall project design.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or other equivalent certification from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in technical safety, fire protection, and/or process safety engineering
  • Highly proficient in fire & gas detection mapping software (e.g., HAZMAP 3D)
  • Expertise in PIPENET
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Willingness to conduct occasional field visits, including climbing stairs, ladders, and lifting up to 25 lbs
