Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Worker/Groundskeeper to join our team at Taft College. This part-time position is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and groundskeeping tasks to ensure the college campus is clean, safe, and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance, repair, and construction of college buildings and equipment.
  • Operate a variety of power-driven equipment, including tractors, trucks, and lawn mowers.
  • Perform plumbing repairs, including unclogging sewers and repairing water faucets and restroom fixtures.
  • Paint walls, doors, rooms, buildings, and other surfaces as required.
  • Inspect and maintain roofs, including documenting work performed and overall roof conditions.
  • Install, repair, and perform locksmith and door hardware duties.
  • Perform maintenance work on HVAC systems.
  • Operate a wide variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Assist with inspection of facilities and equipment for safety and assist with scheduled preventative maintenance planning.
  • Drive and/or operate district-owned vehicles, including light tractors, skip loaders, and forklifts.
  • Perform general grounds maintenance duties, including repairing fences, mixing and pouring cement, and painting.
  • Maintain and repair automatic irrigation systems.
  • Plant, cultivate, prune, spray, fertilize, and irrigate flowers, trees, grass, and shrubs.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of groundskeeping-related experience.
  • Experience in maintenance and construction, including concrete, electrical, plumbing, custodial methods, and carpentry.
  • General knowledge of plant care, knowledge and appreciation of the aesthetic quality of landscaping, and general knowledge of and skill in the proper operation of required equipment.
  • Ability to perform repair of mechanical equipment, work at a desk, conference table, or in meetings of various configurations, stand and circulate for extended periods of time, see for purposes of reading laws, codes, rules, policies, and other printed matter, hear and understand speech at normal levels, communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation, lift 50 lbs, carry 50 lbs, reach in all directions.
Working Conditions

Assignments are typically 19 hours per week. May require overtime, holiday, or weekend work to meet deadlines. Reasonable accommodations will be made for candidates and employees with physical disabilities.

Environment

Community college campus serving a diverse student population, which includes a Children's Center, athletic fields, and other college grounds. Small maintenance and grounds staff requiring flexibility to provide a clean and attractive environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Supervision

Supervision is received from the Director of Facilities and Planning and the Vice President of Administrative Services. No supervision is exercised.
