Maintenance Worker/Groundskeeper, PT

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in the classification, however, employees may perform other related duties not listed and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee.
Perform skilled and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance, repair and construction of District buildings and equipment in one or more of the building maintenance trades;
Operate a variety of power driven equipment such as tractors, trucks, weed whips, mowers, blowers, fork lifts, sweepers, power pressure washers, chain saws, golf carts and other equipment used in grounds maintenance work; utilize standard gardening hand tools; assure equipment is in safe operating condition.
Performs plumbing repairs. Inspects, maintains, and repairs complete plumbing systems, unclog sewers, repair water faucets and restroom fixtures;
Performs a variety of painting and varnishing duties. Paints walls, doors, rooms, buildings, parking lots, and other surfaces as required.
Uses spray equipment or brushes.
Inspects roofs; Performs preventive maintenance of roofs. Documents work performed and overall roof conditions;
Installs, repairs, and performs a variety of locksmith and door hardware duties;
Perform maintenance work in the limited repair and servicing of HVAC systems;
Operate a wide variety of hand and power tools and equipment including motor vehicles, grinder, jointer, bench sander, power hand tools, saws and various tools used in the maintenance trades;
Take appropriate action following departmental practices and refer to supervisor as appropriate;
Assists with inspection of facilities and equipment for safety; assists with scheduled preventative maintenance planning;
Drives and/or operates equipment including light tractors, skip loaders, forklift, lawn mowers and other labor-saving devices. Participate in the maintenance of vehicles as assigned;
Set-up and prepare seating, bleachers, tables, barricades, caution tape and dividers for a variety of special events, such as graduation, registration or other events; dismantle, clean and repair grounds and facilities.
Perform general grounds maintenance duties involved in repairing fences, mixing and pouring cement, painting and other duties; haul sand and dirt as assigned.
Maintain and repair automatic irrigation systems; install, replace irrigation lines, valves, and emitter devices, reline pipe and electric clock systems as required.
Drives and/or operates district owned vehicles; may drive and set up at offsite locations; pick up and deliver equipment, assemble and move furniture and set up equipment for meetings, classes and special events;
Plant, cultivate, prune, spray, fertilize and irrigate flowers, trees grass and shrubs; hoe weeds, rake leaves, sweep walks, pick up debris.
Utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) as required;
Respond to emergency situations and respond appropriately;
Assist in the performance of custodial duties, when required;
Performs other duties as required.


EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent

Desirable Qualifications:
Three years of groundskeeping related experience.
Experience in maintenance and construction, including concrete, electrical, plumbing, custodial methods and carpentry. General grounds keeping experience.

Knowledge of:
• General knowledge of plant care
• Knowledge and appreciation of the aesthetic quality of landscaping
• General knowledge of and skill in the proper operation of required equipment
• Knowledge of and ability to perform routine custodial tasks
• Knowledge of proper spraying techniques including any required state or federal certification
• Knowledge of and ability to work with sprinkler systems including automatic controls

Ability to:
• Ability to perform repair of mechanical equipment
• Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
• Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.
• Ability to see for purposes of reading laws, codes, rules, policies and other printed matter.
• Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
• Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to reach in all directions.

Pay Range
Range 22 on the Classified Employees Salary Schedule, $27.05 - $32.88 per hour. This is at part-time position and does not qualify for participation in the District's benefits programs.

Working Conditions:

Assignments are typically 19 hours per week. May require over-time, holiday or weekend work to meet deadlines.

Community college campus serving a diverse student population, which includes a Children’s Center, athletic fields and other college grounds. Small maintenance and grounds staff requiring flexibility to provide a clean and attractive environment for students, faculty and staff.

SUPERVISION:
Supervision is received from the Director of Facilities and Planning and the Vice President of Administrative Services. No supervision is exercised.
