Your Mission

To ensure a smooth integration of new products and options into our production processes. Engage in continuous improvement initiatives, including but not limited to implementing lean manufacturing techniques, 5S practices, visual management, and enhancing throughput, quality, safety, and ergonomics in the assembly of severe-duty class 8 trucks.

Key Responsibilities

As a Manufacturing Process Specialist, you will be responsible for various engineering functions within your scope at Autocar. Your key responsibilities include:
  • Creating work instructions, tooling, and processes necessary for the efficient introduction of new products and options into the manufacturing environment.
  • Executing development plans to launch new options and products while improving manufacturing efficiency and controlling costs.
  • Applying Six Sigma and Lean principles in collaboration with plant leadership to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Establishing work instructions and tooling, as well as developing time study data for new product implementation.
  • Fostering a willingness to learn and motivating others to achieve results.
Essential Duties

Your essential duties will include:
  • Providing daily production and quality support, reviewing resource needs and assembly processes with area supervisors, and updating process instructions as necessary.
  • Training supervisors and operators on new processes and production launches.
  • Participating in Kaizen events and implementing actionable outcomes.
  • Contributing to the plant safety team.
  • Engaging in design reviews and offering guidance for manufacturing-friendly designs.
  • Estimating time and resource requirements for new orders to meet customer demands.
  • Coordinating with external engineers to finalize process models and assembly instructions.
  • Overseeing tooling development and inspections.
  • Collaborating with manufacturers to develop tooling for new product launches.
  • Ensuring subcontractors certify current tooling for its intended use.
  • Managing projects related to the introduction of new products and options into production.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned to support production needs.

Background Requirements

To be successful in this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in automotive or heavy truck assembly.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, and visual management.
  • Understanding of time study and line balancing principles.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with CAD software.
