Job Summary

The City of Belton is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technician I to join our Public Works team. Under the direction of the Water/Wastewater Superintendent, this role will perform a variety of tasks in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water/sewer collection systems and related facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain Water/Sewer Systems: Perform general maintenance checks and make simple repairs to the City's water/sewer systems.
  • Operate Heavy Equipment: Operate tapping machines, jackhammers, air hammers, sewer rooter, compactors, and pipe cutting equipment.
  • Respond to Emergencies: Respond to complaints involving sewer system backup, overflow, or stoppages; clear what is possible with equipment used or refer to superintendent for a work crew.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain a variety of records and information.
  • Safety Regulations: Maintain safety regulations including wearing appropriate clothing, erecting proper barricades and signage, and using proper equipment and tools.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • License/Certification: Must be able to obtain a Class D Water or a Collection I Wastewater license within one (1) year from the date of hire.
  • Physical Demands: Work is performed in a construction site/outdoor environment. May be subject to walking on uneven or unstable terrain, repetitive motion, and heavy manual labor.
