Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Automotive Technician III to join our team at Bell County Texas. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing advanced electrical system diagnosis and repairs, as well as performing vehicle and medium-heavy truck diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop individual training programs for Technicians in coordination with Shop Supervisor
  • Works with Fleet Division personnel to coordinate professional improvement and other technical trainings
  • Makes modifications to training based on need for new material or changes in services
  • Identifies and coordinates external training opportunities for Fleet Services staff
  • Assists in the integration of new staff members to shop operations and procedures
  • Assists in implementation of new technologies and procedures
  • Assist the Shop Supervisor with various office duties such as processing work order requests, maintaining fuel records, etc.
  • Utilizes computer software for labor and parts management
  • Performs advanced electrical system diagnosis and repairs
  • Performs vehicle and medium-heavy truck diagnostics
  • Performs major and minor repairs on all air conditioning systems including automotive, medium-heavy, and heavy trucks.
  • Performs major and minor mechanical work, including but not limited to, repair and replace water/fuel pumps, radiators, alternators, differentials, timing chains, belts, hoses, fuses, valves, and batteries
  • Operates a variety of hand, power and shop tools
  • Operates a variety of machinery such as computerized tire balancing machine, tire mount/dismount machine, and front-end alignment machine
  • Cleans and maintains shop facilities and equipment
  • Collaborates with vendors, technical staff, and manufacturing representatives
  • Performs vehicle inspections for the State of Texas
  • Attends all trainings and meetings as required
  • Performs special duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Six (6) years of vehicle and equipment maintenance experience
  • Prior experience training technicians in the maintenance and repairs of light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment
  • Prior experience with scan tools, shop gauges, and welding
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Basic computer skills such as email, word processing programs, and data entry
  • Ability to provide own hand tools
Work Environment

The position involves frequent exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, indoor and outdoor work in all environments, including inclement weather, travel between work sites, as required, exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, bacteria, fungus, and high noise levels.

Irregular Hours
  • Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8am - 4:30pm) may be required
  • May be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency
Licenses and Special Certifications
  • Valid Class C Driver's license
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Tech Certification
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Refrigerant Recovery and Recovery Certification
  • State Vehicle Inspector License
Preferred Qualifications
  • Class A CDL
  • State Vehicle Inspectors License
  • Five (5) Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) certifications or five (5) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications.
  • Five years of verifiable experience in equipment or vehicle maintenance
  • Some technical school or military training in mechanics or related field
  • Proficient and certified to operate the air conditioner refrigerant recovery machine
